From Father Gabriel’s Desk

Dear Beloved Mothers and Grandmothers,

In this month of February, I want to speak to your hearts, the place where God Himself chooses to begin His work in us. In the Sacrament of Baptism God begins His work within us by giving us the three theological Virtues: Faith, Hope and Charity. In the words of St. Paul, “the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 5:5).

In the Book of Heaven Our Lord says to Luisa, “The Sovereign Queen, had always something to give Us, always something to say; She kept Us always occupied, and We had always something to give, and always Our loving secrets to communicate to Her, so much so that, we do nothing without Her. We deal with Her first, then We deposit that good in Her maternal heart, and from Her maternal heart it descends into the fortunate one who must receive that good. Therefore, there is no grace that descends upon earth, there is no sanctity that is formed, there is no sinner that is converted, there is no love that departs from Our throne, which is not deposited in Her Heart of Mother first and She forms the maturity of that good, She fecundates it with Her love, She enriches it with Her graces and, if needed, with the virtue of Her sorrows; and then She deposits it in the one who must receive it, in such a way that the creature who receives it feels the Divine Paternity and the Maternity of her Celestial Mother.” (Vol. 34. December 8, 1935)

According to this passage before any grace reaches us, before light touches our path or strength steadies our steps, God places it in the maternal heart of the Blessed Mother. The Blessed Mother is our advocate before God; thus, we should love her.

In the same way, I would argue that God not only places His grace first in the Heart of the Blessed Mother. But He also places in your maternal hearts the desire to obtain graces for your children. Therefore, you must approach God with confidence and trust through the intercession of the Blessed Mother. Knowing with certainty that from your hearts, from your prayers, good descends quietly, patiently into the lives of the sons and daughters entrusted to you. Your prayers are channels of grace through which God bestows blessings upon your families.

Your prayers are never small or unheard nor are they delayed or overlooked. When you pray, God sees the love with which you pray. He allows His grace to mature within you—shaped by your sacrifice, enriched by your love, strengthened even by your sorrows—before He pours it out upon your children in the way they most need to receive it. Saint Augustine says that “God speaks to us through desires.” The very fact that you desire good and the salvation for your children and family members, it is a sign of God working through you.

There is no grace that reaches your child that has not passed through the heart of the Blessed Mother, there is no conversion, no protection, no miracle that God has not first entrusted to the Blessed Mother. Therefore, draw near to Her maternal heart when you pray through worry, when you pray through tears, when you pray through silence—know this: God is working. He is creating the dispositions in the hearts of your children to be able to receive those graces and in His perfect time, He will place it gently into the heart of your child.

All of you have been blessed with the gift of motherhood, something that all you share in common with the Blessed Mother herself. So do not doubt the power of your love. Do not doubt the weight of your prayers. Heaven itself honors a mother’s heart.

My prayer for all of you is that God may continue to fill you with His peace, strengthen you with His grace, and remind you especially on the hard days that He has chosen you as the vessel through which His blessings flow to reach your children and family members.
