The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The Blessed Trinity is the highest mystery of our faith: one God three Divine persons – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. In our beautiful Catechism, we find the following teaching about this profound mystery which helps us understand our purpose as God’s sons and daughters.

“The ultimate end of the whole divine economy is the entry of God’s creatures into the perfect unity of the Blessed Trinity. But even now we are called to be a dwelling for the Most Holy Trinity: “If a man loves me”, says the Lord, “he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our home with him.”

O my God, Trinity whom I adore, help me forget myself entirely so to establish myself in you, unmovable and peaceful as if my soul were already in eternity. May nothing be able to trouble my peace or make me leave you, O my unchanging God, but may each minute bring me more deeply into your mystery! Grant my soul peace. Make it your heaven, your beloved dwelling and the place of your rest. May I never abandon you there, but may I be there, whole and entire, completely vigilant in my faith, entirely adoring, and wholly given over to your creative action.” (CCC-259)

Indeed, we are all created by God and we all have our origin in Him, who is the source of everything that exists. To God the Father is attributed the work of creation. In the book of Genesis, we see that God the Father creates out of nothing; He simply Wills things into existence, and they come to be.

The Eternal Word of God is the Second person of the Blessed Trinity, that became flesh and dwelled among us. To the second Person of the Blessed Trinity is attributed the work of Redemption, reconciling us to God the Father after the Fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden. It was through the incarnation of the Son of God enabled our humanity to be filled with the Holy Spirit and to participate in His Divine life.

To the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Blessed Trinity is attributed the work of Sanctification: filling us with grace through the Sacraments instituted by Our Lord Jesus Christ and continuing His work among us. The Holy Spirit perfects us in the order of grace, preparing us for the beatific vision.

God who created everything out of love for us desires to dwell within us through the sanctifying grace that flows from each sacrament. In Christ and by the sanctifying grace of the sacraments, we are now temples of the Holy Spirit. Beginning with the sacrament of Baptism, we become the dwelling place of the Blessed Trinity. Just as creation is our home, we were created to be God’s dwelling place. This indwelling begins in Baptism. As sons and daughters of God we are called to recognize the Divine Presence within us and to offer everything back to Him.

“God created everything for man, but man in turn was created to serve and love God and to offer all creation back to him.” (CCC-358)

We come from God, and our ultimate end is God – the Blessed Trinity. In the word of the Apostle Paul: “For In him we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 17: 28)

My brothers and sisters, I wish to leave you with this simple prayer to the Blessed Trinity:

Ever Most Holy Trinity – Father, Son, and Holy Spirt – I adore you profoundly, I love You intensely, and I thank You perpetually in the hearts of all and on behalf of all. Amen.

Entrusting you all to the Most Blessed Trinity!

Fiat
